CATHY S. BABAO has an M.A in Family Psychology and Education from Miriam College, Quezon City as well as a specialized training on the dynamics of grief in family context from the University of Indiana.
She has worked with various local and multinational companies (Merck Sharp and Dohme, Johnson and Johnson, Glaxo Smith Kline, Jannsen, The Medical City, American Embassy in Manila) as a communications expert.
She writes a column for Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Lifestyle section, entitled “Roots&Wings”
A published author of three books ‘Between Loss & Forever: Filipina Mothers On The Grief Journey” (Finalist for the 2012 National Book Awards-nonfiction prose category),“Heaven’s Butterfly” (book on helping children cope with the death of a loved one) and most recently, “Heart On My Sleeve” an anthology of her 50 favorite pieces from her PDI column.
Cathy was given in 2004 The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) award for Public Service (Children’s Healthcare Advocacy) and UNICEF and the Philippine Press Institute, Outstanding Story of the Year on Children, Broadsheet category. In 2003, she was the recipient of Reader’s Digest Everyday Hero Award. She also received a Harvard University/Nieman Foundation Scholarship related to Narrative Journalism workshop in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Her contribution in community and social development include conceptualization and successful implementation of community projects for scholarship funds as well as outreach programs for children affected by typhoon.
