Mel Erickson is the retired co-founder and Program Director of GriefWorks: A Bereavement Resource, a non-profit organization that offered education and support to the community for almost 13 years. Mel developed the Bereavement Program and Family Bereavement Services for Good Samaritan Hospice in Puyallup, Washington, where she served as a program coordinator for over twelve years.
She currently facilitates bereavement support groups as well as groups for caregivers and people living with illness. Mel consults to community service providers including churches, schools, healthcare professionals and supervised living programs for the disabled.
She has co-authored a book called Teen Talk, An Eight Week Curriculum for Grieving Teens and has created a workbook for grieving children called Our Story. Her particular interest is to facilitate understanding of the necessary and natural healing process of grief in response to loss and to teach caring people the skills needed to support bereaved adults and youth.
